Every year the Urban Council holds an 'open house' to publicise its ever expanding services and venues. This year the open house takes place on Hong Kong Island on the weekend of October 12 and 13, and on the Kowloon side the following weekend. More than 100 venues will be thrown open to the public, offering a variety of free activities. Venues such as Hong Kong Park and Kowloon Park, will provide fun and games for all the family. Guided tours and fun learning activities will also be arranged at the Zoological and Botanical Gardens, nurseries, museums and public libraries. At the City Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre and civic centres there will be magic and puppet shows, folk dance and Cantonese opera. At Hong Kong Stadium on October 13 there will be a celebrity football match between movie stars and local politicians and a children's fun fair. More than 70 swimming pools, indoor games halls and sports grounds will be open for free admission.
