If you have a computer, save yourself the trouble of taking a bus or the MTR to visit Hong Kong's six universities.

  Just land on the web sites of the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

  Each has its own special features, and the Internet is a wonderfully quick way to compare the six tertiary institutions.

  Let us start with our oldest university, the University of Hong Kong, URL address (http://www.hku.hk/). HKU's home page gives you a brief introduction to the university, its objectives, as well as its history. There is also a list of coming events.

  Our second oldest university is the Chinese University of Hong Kong (http://www.cuhk.hk/). It has seven faculties: Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Medicine, Science and Social Science.

   CU's web site gives plenty of information about each faculty, and the range of courses offered. For 'hot news', click on to What's New on CU's home page. You will then be sent to the What's New web page.

   Photography enthusiasts must visit Virtual Gallery (http://www.cuhk.hk/pearl.htm), where they will see views of Hong Kong and China in both black and white, and colour.

   From CU's web site you can also visit other interesting sites, such as Radio Television Hong Kong and the Securities and Futures Commission.

  The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (http://www.ust.hk/) is comparatively new, having opened in 1991. See what it has to offer in state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities.

   The Hong Kong Polytechnic University - URL address: http://www.polyu.edu.hk/) - has impressive multi-media effects to offer.

  Besides getting general information about PolyU, you can enjoy a QuickTime film featuring PolyU's president, Professor Poon Chung-kwong.

  The City University of Hong Kong - web address http://www.cityu.edu.hk/ - gives a list of its publications for you to browse through.

  The home page of Hong Kong Baptist University (http://www.hkbu.edu.hk/) links you up to the library web site, where you get a list of the latest books ordered.

   You can also link up to the Hong Kong Academic Libraries and libraries around the world from Baptist University's library site (http://www.hkbu.edu.hk:80/lib/).
