PROPERTY magnate Mr Cecil Chao and Ms Terri Holladay have trumped expectations that theirs would be the wedding of the year by quietly getting married late last month.
The couple had a lavish engagement party in November at their Pokfulam home, Villa Cecil, with guests including Mr Li Ka-shing, Mr Michael Kadoorie and Mr David Tang, who were taken there aboard Mr Chao's 33-metre yacht.
It climaxed a succession of engagement bashes, which formed part of a year-long plan by the two to marry.
But, instead of a lavish ceremony, the pair slipped out of the territory for a service in a Southeast Asian city, said to have been Singapore.
The normally expansive Mr Chao, 55, was strangely reticent when we called to congratulate him.
''I have no comment to make,'' he said. ''I really do not want to talk about it.
