Rupert Murdoch's satellite television broadcasting unit Star TV has formed a joint venture with ESPN to produce sports programming in Asia.

  The Hong Kong-based Star TV said each party would hold a 50 per cent shareholding in the joint venture, while the existing ESPN Asia and STAR Sports brand names would be preserved.
