Wine: Davidoff Classic Cognac Grape: Ugni Blanc Region: Cognac, France Vintage: Non-vintage Davidoff is best known for its luxury cigars. Now in partnership with Hennessy, they have released two luxury Cognacs - Davidoff Classic and Davidoff Extra, designed to be perfect accompaniments to its cigars. These are bound to be popular in cigar-crazy Hong Kong. The Classic is made from powerful eaux de vie that have been aged in new oak casks. The eaux de vie originate from the four best growths of the Cognac region: Grande and Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fin Bois. Some are more than 20 years old. The colour is a dark amber. On the nose there are aromas of vanilla, oak and roses. On the palate, the Cognac is rich and full with honey and vanilla flavours. The Classic is powerful and has good length. The Extra has much older eaux de vie. It is old gold in colour, and has aromas of burnt orange and old leather. Rich and unctuous, it lingers long on the palate. Where to buy: From the importer Olivier Hong Kong (tel: 2802-6001) or from Oliver's Delicatessen and other upmarket outlets. Price ranges from $500 to $600, depending on the retailer. The Extra is more than three times higher.
