Q: What do you think is the main difference between you and the other candidates? A: My lack of any political affiliation. My next difference is I have no business affiliation. I have no direct official connection with the civil service. To that extent, I am very neutral and therefore I think I shall be able to adopt an independent view on matters and judge matters on their merits.
Q: Those are the reasons that people should vote for you? A: These are good reasons. There are others. I was born in China, I studied at a Chinese university. I speak Shanghainese and Mandarin and I am comfortable with people in China.
I speak English pretty well. I am comfortable with English people, American people. So I could be a bridge between the East and the West, between the people of Hong Kong and the mainlanders. I think that probably is an asset.
Thirdly, I call myself a patriot. I love China and have a true sentiment towards China.
I am generally known to people in Hong Kong. People know my strengths and weaknesses.
Q: Do you think it is fair that it's not the public but the 400 people on the Selection Committee who are going to vote? A: We all recognise this is not a popular election, but is within the constraints and Basic Law. What is being done is as fair as it can be. I am very concerned about the lack of official or proper channels for the people of Hong Kong to express their views.
