Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi responded to the military's removal of checkpoints barring access to her house yesterday by saying she was ready to resume her weekly public gatherings.

'A few blockades do not constitute obstacles to democratisation. We shall have to meet as long as people desire to meet. Come and see,' Ms Aung San Suu Kyi said after her street was cleared.
The checkpoints were set up on September 26 to prevent her National League for Democracy from holding a congress from September 27 to 29.
