Fair play plea

Maybe the attendances at the rugby internationals at Aberdeen last week and at the Hong Kong Stadium on Sunday, were boosted by the desire to secure a chance in the ballot for a ticket for the Sevens.

Nevertheless, all those present showed their interest in Hong Kong rugby. They would have enjoyed themselves into the bargain, but only filled a relatively small portion of the stadium.

Obviously some of Sunday's vacant seats must be allocated to supporters from visiting teams and the executive boxes maintained for the organisations which have supported the stadium financially. However, even with these accounted for, it shows that a lot of seats are being kept for those who do not need to support Hong Kong rugby, but who still expect to get tickets for the Sevens by other means.

So how about the authorities announcing that all those who twice registered for the ballot will actually be offered the opportunity to purchase a ticket? This would recognise where the true support comes from and would be seen as eminently fair by everyone, except perhaps by those who expect to get a ticket by the efforts or influence of others.

Is there anyone with a sense of fair play, which is what rugby should be about and with the authority in the committees, to at least put this forward to the decision makers? PETER SUNDERLAND Discovery Bay
