About 400 accountants have sharpened their professional skills by completing an accountancy course with a strong emphasis on computer literacy.
Sixty-eight graduates were awarded the Certificate in Professional Accounting by the School of Professional and Continuing Education of Hong Kong University and the Certified General Accountant Certificate by the Certified General Accountants' Association of Canada (CGA).
A further 331 graduates received a Diploma in Accounting by the school at the recent Seventh Joint Graduation Ceremony 1996.
The chairman of CGA, Jean Precourt, appreciated the effort and the enthusiasm the graduates showed for their profession.
Speaking at the ceremony, he described the graduates as 'an important human resource for the companies who will give those companies the competitiveness they need.' Fong Sui-tong, a graduate of the Diploma in Accounting course, said the course was comprehensive in the sense that it integrated computer literacy with the accounting curriculum.
'The combination enables students to enter the accounting industry, in which computerisation is inevitable,' he said.
