MY COUSIN VINNY (1992, Fox Video, 119 minutes) MY COUSIN Vinny is probably one of the best comedies produced in 1992, and stars Joe Pesci as Vinny, a New York lawyer who goes to the South to defend his cousin and a friend against murder charges.

As usual, Pesci delivers a great performance and is complemented by Marisa Tomei, who plays Vinny's long-suffering and car-mad girlfriend. Fred Gwynne also lends able support as the town judge who finds Pesci's ways more than a little intriguing.

The final court scene is a gem, with Pesci and Tomei kicking into overdrive and taking over the film - this scene alone makes it worth watching.

THE BABE (1992, CIC, 105 minutes) ''BABE Ruth's R-rated life gets a PG whitewash'' is the description given to this film by US critics, and sure enough, John Goodman plays Ruth, the legendary American baseball player, a bumbling but essentially good-hearted hero.

The film breaks the mould on baseball films produced in recent years.

There are plenty of stadium set pieces but director Arthur Hiller deals with these swiftly and with the minimum of fuss.
