In a crucial month for both clubs, the Red Devils of United and Liverpool's Reds will be battling for control of the Premiership in English football's match of the season.

Victory for United would leave them just one point behind their bitter north-west rivals at the start of a hectic schedule of matches in the league, European Champions' League and English League Cup.

Victory for Liverpool would move them seven points clear of United and put them on course to take the title back to Anfield for the first time since 1990.

After tomorrow's match, United face two successive away games in the Premiership: against Newcastle United at St James's Park on Sunday, October 20, and against Southampton at The Dell the following weekend.

Liverpool, on the other hand, can look forward to two consecutive league games at Anfield: the Merseyside derby against Everton, followed by the visit of Derby County.
