Tests for ill singer

POP star Eddy Grant flew to England for medical tests after developing a mysterious illness in Georgetown, Guyana, in the past fortnight, relatives said.

Guyana-born Grant, 43, who became known as a singer for The Equals and then with Electric Avenue in 1985, was in the intensive care unit of a Georgetown city hospital for most of last week, complaining of stomach pains and high fevers. But the singer wasflown to England after he failed to recover from high fevers and general weakness.

Relatives say Grant - who is now based in Barbados where he owns a recording studio used by the Rolling Stones and other groups - will take ''a lengthy rest'' before returning for local carnival celebrations this month.
