Whilst one may respect Paul Serfaty's strong views (South China Morning Post, October 8), I must correct two mistakes. I did not discuss the powers of the National People's Congress to amend the Basic Law in my October 3 letter.

  Secondly, I did not use the phrase 'capitalist way of life unchanged for 50 years' to discourage social and political 'evolution' in my earlier letter which was published on September 2.
