CDL leads the way in varied week
HOTEL stocks had a varied week compared with the rise in the Hang Seng Index of 1.5 per cent.
CDL Hotels again performed strongly on continuing speculation about its controlling family injecting an interest in the Xiamen Holiday Inn into the company.
Last Friday, Mr Stuart Cook of Baring Securities gave the reasons for his company's neutral stance on hotel stocks.
''Occupancy levels are expected to be satisfactory but there is still supply coming on to the market. We see average room rates firming up by 10 per cent in 1994,'' he said.
A 1994 boost would come from a fall in new room supply. Barings' favourite stock is Regal Hotels.
