Sybase's Powersoft unit reveals Net plug-ins for PowerBuilder
The Powersoft business unit of Sybase has previewed some Internet-enabling technologies to enhance its range of code development, database and server tools.
Colin Png, regional technical evangelist for Powersoft, demonstrated the Internet Developer Toolkit - an accompaniment to PowerBuilder 5.0 - to Sybase developers, customers and resellers in Hong Kong.
The session was one of a series of Internet-friendly announcements from Sybase that will culminate in the unveiling next month of a new development environment for Web mastering, NetImpact Studio.
Sybase had planned to keep NetImpact Studio secret until the scheduled launch in April, but a leak to the trade press in the United States forced its hand.
Mr Png said Sybase was prepared to preview the toolkit for PowerBuilder 5.0, aimed at existing users of the client/server development environment.
'Microsoft and Borland have pushed out brand-new standalone products to put data on the Internet,' Mr Png said.
'But with the new PowerBuilder plug-ins, you can use existing software, existing applications and existing tools to do the same.
