Maverick politician Liu Yiu-chu last night spoke out on the chief executive race, describing Peter Woo Kwong-ching as susceptible to autocracy and Simon Li Fook-sean as a 'lovely old man'.
Ms Liu, a deputy to the National People's Congress, said the chief executive should 'show he has ears and listen to different views. He should show he has leadership and allow others to explore their talents'.
Tung Chee-hwa was her first choice. 'Mr Tung excels because he has a good nature,' she said.
Commenting on Mr Woo, with whom she and other deputies had dinner last night, Ms Liu said: 'Of course, he is full of self-confidence. But if he gets authority, he will easily and unconsciously become an autocrat.' She said Mr Woo discussed economic issues, but appeared to have little interest in other topics.
Former Appeal Court judge Simon Li Fook-sean, who declared his candidacy yesterday, was a 'lovely old man', she said. 'You should not feel angry about him. But as a chief executive, you cannot seriously accept this as a possibility,' she said.
'If he . . . doesn't change his style, I believe we will be in for some entertainment.' On Chief Justice Sir Ti Liang Yang, Ms Liu said: 'He suddenly wants to be Chinese. He never felt it was an insult to accept a knighthood.
