Security guards confiscated a Diaoyu Islands banner from protester Leung Kwok-hung during the soccer match between Nagoya Grampus Eight and South China last night. The banner read: 'Chinese and Japanese join together to destroy Japanese militarism.' Mr Leung, a member of the April 5 Action Group, was allowed to stay in his seat and was told the banner would be returned after the match. Guards also confiscated a flag from one of the hundreds of Japanese fans. More than 600 police and stadium staff were deployed because of fears of protests over the islands. 'Provocative' materials, including national flags, banners and placards were banned, as were cans and bottles.
