I refer to the letter headlined, 'Leave note' (South China Morning Post, September 25), in which your reader T. Sugiura suggested that postmen should leave a note to addressees on the spot if a door delivery attempt of a parcel was unsuccessful. Under our current practice, if a parcel cannot be delivered it is transferred to the post office nearest to the addresses for collection. A notification card is then issued to request the addressee to collect the parcel. We follow this procedure to make sure that the addressee does not attempt to pick up the parcel before it has arrived at the collection post office. We recognise that this arrangement is not ideal. We are therefore, as a result of Ms Sugiura's letter, reviewing it to see whether it can be improved. Should Ms Sugiura have further inquiries about the postal service, she may contact the Controller of Posts (Branch Offices) at 2921-2302. K.M. WONG for Postmaster-General
