The income gap in China, although widening in recent years, has been exaggerated, according to Standard Chartered Bank. The bank said income disparity in China was not as serious as many people believed - and better than the level in Hong Kong and Singapore in the early 1980s. 'The income distribution in China as a whole is less uneven than many other countries, both developed and developing,' it said. Psychological and social factors were responsible for the perception, it said.
