I was greatly disturbed by the lack of concern shown by the Hong Kong police after English teacher Keith Gibbs disappeared last weekend. He was last seen at the German Beer Festival, on Saturday night, at the Hong Kong Hotel. But those close to him knew of his intentions to travel to Lantau on Sunday where he often walked along regular routes.
A policeman at Mui Wo, Lantau, advised a friend that a search could not be undertaken by police. It seems logical that if someone slipped from a path and lay immobilised they may at least survive several days.
Is it too much trouble for the Hong Kong police with all its resources to at least spare a helicopter to scan the paths of Lantau since he is officially missing? For anyone walking on Lantau this weekend please keep a sharp eye for a large expatriate male in his late 40s who may have slipped and is lying somewhere.
