The notebook computer is truly beginning to look like a portable desktop.

Sharp has come out with a little one called the Widenote, named after the screen size of 1024 x 600 dots. With this resolution, you can get the standard PC quality colour range of 256 colours on an 11.2 inch screen.

There is also a 1.08 gigabyte hard disk and a Pentium 133 MHz processor. A 28.8 Kbps modem comes built in as well.

A big selling point is that you can realistically view two pages of work on the screen at the same time.

Another plus for the wide screen is that more of a spreadsheet can be viewed.

'We are packaging this machine as a mobile, light computer,' Louis Lam Kwang-sang, marketing manager for Sharp-Roxy (Hong Kong), said.
