I read with interest the recent correspondence in these columns on the topic of 'Right of Abode after 1997'. I have another question for Anna Chan, for the Director of Immigration. I am writing on behalf of my sister. She is a Chinese born in Brunei. Our parents are Hong Kong Chinese. She is a holder of the British Overseas Citizen (BOC) passport issued in Hong Kong and has been residing in Hong Kong since 1979. She does not have another passport issued by another country. She is planning to study in Australia for two to three years starting from February, 1997. It is her intention to return to Hong Kong to live and work after she has completed her studies. I would like to find out whether she will retain her right of abode that she enjoys now, as she will not be physically present in Hong Kong on July 1, 1997. What does she need to do in order to retain her right of abode? NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED
