Your article headlined, 'Haven for Manila's unwanted children' (South China Morning Post, October 15) touched me deeply. Had an address or contact number been furnished, my cheque in support of this couple and their compassionate work would already be on its way. I wonder how many other people who might have also read this article about child abandonment and who were also affected by it, might have then and there sent their contribution as well. We are all jolted out of complacency by different injustices. Would it be possible for a bank in Hong Kong to process cheques for these children, as money orders and cheques sent abroad, can often go astray? I would also like to see this article re-printed in any or several of the Philippine newspapers, where so many columns are devoted to gossip and trivia. An article about the plight of these children and the work done by people such as the Fables, might also move hearts there, where it happens. Perhaps journalists and editors over there do not think it is worth printing and people then forget to care. FRANCE B.
