A glistening mountain of grey cement was dumped on to Macdonnell Road on Monday. Alan Begg, a Hong Kong-based pilot, noticed this out of the corner of his eye as he headed home at the start of the week.
The fresh cement, in a heap about one metre by four metres, had clearly been placed there so that it could be used to fill up a hole dug by the government's Drainage Services Department.
However, the workers from the contractor's firm, Wing Mou Construction Co, left it overnight where it was.
The following morning it had transformed itself into a solid hill of rock. Uh-oh. Now what do we do? Four men with jackhammers spent much of Tuesday breaking it up into smaller pieces so that it could be taken away. That afternoon, another mountain of fresh cement was delivered.
Yesterday, Alan noticed that some of it had been used to fill up the hole, but a huge mass of it had been left there overnight - and had again turned into a giant rock.
