Chief executive contender Peter Woo Kwong-ching pledged yesterday to allow the elderly free or half-price hospital treatment if he won office. Meeting about 20 representatives of the Elderly Rights League, Mr Woo said he had come into contact with the problems of the elderly during recent visits to Ngau Tau Kok, Tseung Kwan O and Tsim Sha Tsui. 'Every one of us will be a senior citizen in the future. We all understand that the elderly hope to be able to feel safe,' he said. 'On the issue of medical care for the elderly, I personally hope that those who pass the means test can receive free hospitalisation or at least half price.' A health care system should also be set up for the elderly to strengthen preventive care, Mr Woo said. League representatives invited him to visit cage homes.
