The Hong Kong Progressive Alliance (HKPA) believes its six-member team in the provisional legislature will make it easier for it to team up with independents on legislative decisions.

Chairman Ambrose Lau Hon-chuen said: 'As a medium-sized group, we can easily seek the co-operation of independents.' The solicitor is not worried that the sudden expansion of the membership in the just-selected legislature would pose a problem to the organisation of the group.

The number of HKPA legislators increased from two to six after the selection by the 400-strong Selection Committee.

The group plans to set up a committee on legislative affairs to co-ordinate the work of the interim body and discuss how it cast its vote before each sitting.

Although the group was not a political party, Mr Lau believed members would vote according to the group's stance when the legislature discussed issues of great importance.

'We have our own disciplinary mechanism to make sure that our members follow the group's stance,' he said.
