The Hospital Authority and Prince of Wales Hospital were found guilty of maladministration by the Ombudsman yesterday.
The ruling followed an investigation into a cancer patient who died after urgently needed surgery was twice cancelled. The patient, whose name and age were not revealed, died from liver cancer in May.
An operation was carried out on March 7, almost three months after he was admitted to the Sha Tin hospital.
The Ombudsman said the hospital's surgery department and the intensive care unit co-ordinated the case badly.
The complaint by the patient's son about delayed treatment and insufficient care was substantiated.
'This office finds the complainant's version more convincing [than the Hospital Authority]' a spokesman said.
The Ombudsman has told the hospital to improve co-ordination between the two units.
