Sembawang takes new name

Sembawang Corp, a diversified ship repair company, has started the new year by informally adopting the shorter name SembCorp in a bid to reflect the company's expanding business activities. Sembawang will remain the company's legal name.

In April 1994 the company changed its name from Sembawang Shipyard to Sembawang Corp.

Less than a month ago, Sembawang, which is controlled by the Government of Singapore through Temasek Holdings, proposed a takeover of Jurong Shipyard, an associated company.
