Aung San Suu Kyi yesterday held private meetings with US diplomats at the home of Washington's top envoy in Burma to sound warnings over current restrictions on her movements.

New embassy charge d'affaires Kent Wiedemann invited the opposition leader to lunch after first informing the ruling military junta, diplomatic sources said.

The junta fears rocky times ahead from new US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, a long-time critic of the regime. Burma's Foreign Minister, U Ohn Gyaw, accused Washington of peddling misinformation and ignoring a new era of 'peace and development' in the countryside.
