Deposit scam agent jailed

A property agent who cheated his clients out of more than $100,000 by pocketing their deposits was jailed for 10 months by the District Court.

Lin Pak-kei, 29, worked for Centraline Property Agency.

He told his clients he could help them to sell or buy flats but asked them to give him downpayments for handling the transactions. Instead of giving the deposits to his company, he pocketed them.

Lin admitted four charges of theft before Judge Donald Christie.

The judge said Lin had breached the trust placed in him by the clients and his boss.
