The 38-hectare island is one in the chain of Clavalli islands off the New Zealand coast of Northland in the country's far north. It is being put on the market by the Maori trust, Mahimahi E5.

The island is about 20 kilometres north of the Bay of Islands and about seven kilometres from Matauri Bay.

There are two houses on the main beach, one occupied by the island's caretaker, and a double-level ranch-style 12-year-old house.

'This is a high-quality well-appointed homestead with superb views of the other islands,' Bayleys' Jim Mays said.

'It has been rented out mainly to people looking for a getaway holiday.' Motukawaiti has an anchorage off its northern beach and is within a short boating distance of the sunken Greenpeace vessel, Rainbow Warrior, blown up by French agents in 1985.
