Mondex lures away Visa technology expert

Mondex International, 51 per cent of which was sold to MasterCard International late last year, has hired a top technology expert from rival Visa International as its chief technology officer.

The British smart card technology company said Peter Hill joined this month.

He will be responsible for technological development, system security, standards and the relationship with equipment and technology suppliers.

At Visa, Mr Hill was responsible for developing the VisaCash system, a smart card system similar to Mondex. He was also responsible for developing EMV (Europay, MasterCard, Visa) standard, a common technology platform which Visa and Mondex want to use.
