Public doctors vowed to take action last night against a Hospital Authority proposal to hire new recruits on contracts rather than giving them permanent jobs.
Industrial action will take place if the doctors do not receive a satisfactory explanation from the authority's chief executive Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong at a meeting next week.
After a Hong Kong Public Doctors' Association council meeting last night, president Dr Andrew Yip Wai-chun said the 26 council members were unanimously against the proposal.
But he said any protest would only involve a delay in filing reports and would not affect patients' treatment.
Doctors are upset about the authority's proposal because the move might lead to staff cuts.
But Dr Lai Fook-ming, Hospital Authority deputy director of corporate affairs, said the proposal was one of many under discussion.
