In response to your article on the 83-year-old retired caddie who was denied a $33,000 pension (South China Morning Post, January 8), I have a couple of suggestions to make.

Firstly, could the 'rich and famous' members of the golf club whose 14 kilogram-heavy bags Cheng Yuen carried for years, maybe find it in their hearts and pockets to put together the above sum? With the Lunar New Year celebrations approaching, this would seem an appropriate act. Secondly, could the Royal Hong Kong Golf Club maybe initiate such action out of a sense of compassion? I am certainly prepared to offer Mr Cheng (as a one-off payment) $1,000 towards his pension, though I am neither rich, famous or play golf.
