Sign laws 'adequate'

THE Secretary for Planning, Environment and Lands, Mr Tony Eason, said there were adequate laws in place to deal with dangerous and potentially dangerous structures outside buildings.

When asked if the Government would consider introducing a licensing system for these structures, Mr Eason said one needed to look into the practicality and the enforcement problems of doing so, given the fact that the territory had 50,000 advertising signs and millions of other structures hanging outside buildings.

He said that in the past two or three years the Building Authority had removed 28,000 such structures.
