IT HAD to happen eventually. In a city where it never snows, what type of store opens in an obscure office building in Wan Chai? A ski shop, of course.

The store, which goes by the moniker 'Fun 'N Snow', bills itself as 'the first specialist store dealing in worldwide famous ski equipment and accessories in Hong Kong'.

Given that Hong Kong folk are said to be more inclined towards skiing holidays, Fun 'N Snow might actually enjoy brisk business.

The people behind the outlet supplied ski equipment for athletes at Harbin's Winter Asian Games last February, and kit out racers from the China Ski Federation in state-of-the-art European gear.

Those who frequent the baby slopes can pop along to the Queen's Road East store for an informal seminar on 'basic skiing technique, body warm-up and equipment know-how'. For savvy skiers, there is even a service for ski-waxing and made-to-measure boot insoles.

But just in case fewer people than anticipated decide to shop for skiwear in Hong Kong, Fun 'N Snow also stocks hiking shoes, bike accessories and sport goggles and glasses.
