Hewlett-Packard has developed a colour/grey scale scanner for first-time users who work in small businesses or have an office at home.
Tom Schoenleber, future product manager of scanning solutions for the peripherals group Asia-Pacific marketing centre, said the HP ScanJet 5p, which replaces the ScanJet 4p, was specifically designed for those without technical skills.
Software programs include HP's PaperPort, which allows users to combine an image, text and spreadsheets in a single file.
Optical character recognition makes it easy to scan text into the computer to create a workable file such as a Microsoft Word document.
The ScanJet 5p comes with a one-year warranty and costs $3,660.
It will be available from retailers in Hong Kong next month.
