Olivetti Personal Computers recently introduced a new line of notebook computers, the Echos Pro series.

  They sport the highest performance chip available for mobile computers - the Intel 150 MHz Pentium processor - and are targeted at the corporate and top end of the market.

 The Echos Pro series is manufactured in Taiwan, with the final packaging and assembly carried out in Italy.

  The Olivetti Echos Pro 133 S model's dimensions are 310 mm by 230 mm and it weighs 3.2 kilograms.

  It has a 12.1-inch high-resolution active matrix display, which has remarkable clarity, and comes with a two-gigabyte hard disk drive. Sixteen megabytes of RAM are installed, which can be expanded to 128 megabytes.

  A built-in multifunction Magic Bay allows for the addition of an 8x speed CD-ROM drive. Multimedia applications are enhanced through a 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro compatible sound card with three-dimensional stereo sound. The notebook has integrated microphone and speakers, as well as a port for video.

  Alternatively, the Magic Bay can accommodate a 3.5-inch floppy disk drive or a second two-gigabyte hard disk drive. For example, the dual disk drive capability allows users to run Microsoft Windows 95, UNIX or another operating system, or to create a protected data drive.

  The pointing device is a TouchPad, which will take some time to get used to for those who normally use a mouse.

  The notebook uses a Lithium-Ion battery, and battery life extends for an average of three hours. It takes about two hours to recharge it.

  Users can choose either Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 as their operating system, and Puma TranXit (an infrared communication software) comes preloaded.

  Additional features include a PCMCIA slot ready to accept either two Type II or one Type III PCMCIA cards and a cardbus allowing users to exploit 32-bit applications.
