Hugh Davies, the British senior representative of the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group (JLG), says the new British Trade Commission building highlights the main legacies Britain will leave Hong Kong after the handover.
Mr Davies said No 1 Supreme Court Road was in itself a prestigious address.
'The major legacies that Britain leaves for Hong Kong are the common law and the rule of law, so I think the address encapsulates what we have been trying to do over the years,' he said.
The building will become one of Britain's most important overseas buildings and the largest British Consulate-General in the world.
Mr Davies said the building, which housed all the JLG offices, had a convenient central location and was a 'fine example of British design and architecture'.
It was filled with works of art and had elements of fung shui and Asian influences which were considered eye-catching and thought-provoking.
