Extra space at the British Council's new premises will provide teachers in its Education Technology Unit with improved facilities for developing modern educational techniques for young children.

Unit head Judy Dendy said more children could be offered English-language training through television and video.

'The scope of our activities and the possibilities for producing valuable teaching aids have increased tremendously by the move to the new building,' she said.

The unit produces English-language video and audio teaching materials for use in the English Language Centre as well as schools and the business community.

It has a library of more than 200 videos. Subjects include techniques for English teaching, self-study programmes for Form six or seven and business communication videos to improve language and communication skills of people working in the service industry.

The self-study programmes were commissioned by the Education Department and the Language Fund for students who are required to pass the Use of English Examination before entering tertiary education.
