Accounting for complexities

A new qualification system could deter some graduates from becoming accountants but plenty of students will still want to join the profession.

That was the verdict of Professor Simon Ho Shun-man of the Chinese University of Hong Kong on new arrangements for certified accountants.

Professor Ho, director of the School of Accountancy, said some graduates would switch career paths because of the 'complex' new procedure, which the Hong Kong Society of Accountants would implement in 1999.
