Jardine House has been removed from the Central waterfront and replaced by police with an unknown building.
The design for the force's new insignia will feature a panorama of some of the most distinctive buildings on Hong Kong Island with the British hong's headquarters deliberately removed.
The design removes the word 'royal' and features the Hong Kong shoreline instead of the current colonial opium trader.
Among the images in a draft of the insignia were the outline of the Bank of China, the Hongkong Bank and Jardine House. But officers disliked the inclusion of Jardine House since the group is no longer domiciled in Hong Kong.
In the final version of the insignia approved by the Chinese side and the Chief Executive-designate, Tung Chee-hwa, Jardine House has disappeared.
'Buildings now shown along the shoreline are City Hall, the Bank of China, an unknown building in the middle, the Hongkong Bank and Exchange Square,' a source said.
