The case of the kidnap cash in the sewage took a not so fresh turn yesterday when 10 $1,000 banknotes came up in the toilet bowl of a women's lavatory on Shekkipmei Estate.
On Wednesday, police officers hunting the kidnappers of a 10-year-old mainland boy and the $2.5 million ransom they took retrieved about 300 notes from two sewage plants in Shamshuipo and Stonecutters Island. The child was rescued from a Yuen Long stonehouse on Monday.
Now the hunt centres on a woman who may have panicked and tried to dump the money in the public lavatory in Nam Cheong Street market.
Yesterday morning the plumbers were called out when four toilets were reported blocked.
By 9 am 10 $1,000 notes had been retrieved.
The total haul for the day from the pipes under the toilets reached about $200,000.
