Hong Kong has yet to see the Church of Scientology set up formally, but some territory residents have come under its influence.
A casual, yet subdued atmosphere prevails at the office of its close affiliate, the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation which is located on Hollywood Road, Central.
It opens evenings and on Saturday afternoons, allowing any interested people to brush up on their L. Ron Hubbard philosophy.
As in other countries, the centre sells books related to his teachings and offers free personality tests.
Also available is an introductory video on the dianetics doctrine.
Not many Hong Kong people even know of its existence. Although the foundation has sought little publicity, it nevertheless has attracted the support of some professionals and executives since opening last March.
About 200 people have either enrolled in dianetic courses - prices between $1,850 and $5,000 - or contacted the centre, according to executive director Roy Banks. 'Generally, they are people coping with life,' he said.
