THE rehabilitation of Stephen Kidd - back to his bouncy-best at the base of the Hong Kong scrum - will not happen overnight, even though the territory's selectors have picked him for next week's international Ballymore 10s in Brisbane.

Scrum-half Kidd played his first game this season in the Foster's Premiership when he turned out for DeA yesterday. True to form, opponents Football Club breezed to a 41-10 victory at King's Park.

The only surprising event was that Kidd lasted the entire game. Before the game, Kidd said he would be happy if he played 40 minutes.

Half-time came and there was no move to pull Kidd out.

One reason might have been the fact that DeA's cupboard is bare. Indicators were the presence of coach Gary Cross and the injured Chris Meads by the second half on the field.

But Kidd's continued presence was due more to his determination to last an entire game. 'I want to re-build my confidence,' said Kidd, who was cast into a defensive role for most of the game.

After yesterday's performance, he will be happy that he has taken the first steps towards rehabilitation.
