Disabled students will be in a better position to receive tertiary education in the coming academic year.
The seven government-funded tertiary institutes have agreed to treat disabled applicants separately under the Joint University Programmes Admissions System.
Students who are physically handicapped, or with hearing, visual and speech impairments are eligible to apply to the joint admission office for separate consideration by February 17.
The office will study the applicants' medical records and consult the Commissioner for Rehabilitation before deciding whether the students should be treated specially.
The scheme was recommended in October by Governor Chris Patten in his policy address.
Under the new arrangements, disabled applicants will be grouped and vetted in a central systematic procedure.
