Florens Container Corp, the container leasing arm of Cosco Pacific, says it is making an aggressive bid to capture new business.
Kelvin Wong, deputy general manager of Cosco Pacific, said Florens had assembled a new sales team which was setting up branches in the United States and Europe.
The sales force, led by Florens chief executive Tony Kwok, who was formerly with Trans Ocean, included several other ex-Trans Ocean staff who joined Florens after Trans Ocean merged with Trans America last year, Mr Wong said.
He said the team was establishing a worldwide network for its master lease and short-term leasing activities while concentrating on expanding its non-Cosco operations, which accounted for about 20 per cent of business.
'With this group of professionals, we are not starting from scratch,' Mr Wong said. The company had set up a computer tracking system to support the sales team.
He said Florens had embarked on a strategy to expand revenue and to improve profits.
'We should have more than enough revenue to absorb unforeseen increases such as payroll costs and any moderate reduction in leasing rates,' he said.
