I was shocked to read the letter by Edwin Pun, headlined, 'China's promises are empty' (South China Morning Post, January 28), prophesying that China will not honour the Sino-British Joint Declaration.
The examples of the Jews and the Cultural Revolution that the writer brought up to draw parallels, were completely incongruous.
We are now barely five months away from the handover and we have a pessimist in our midst sowing the seeds of doom.
Judging from the strong words in his condemnation of our incoming sovereign, it is indeed strange that Mr Pun is still living in this territory at this late stage.
Obviously he has not come to terms with reality or accepted that this little island's destiny is inextricably linked to China's. To fight China is to fight Hong Kong.
My advice is that it is better off for this stubborn group of disenchanted people to pack up and find life in another country.
