BMG Records executives are confident they can break male quintet Az Yet into the Hong Kong scene, despite the gaggle of competing R&B male groups.
The group's first gold single Last Night was featured on the original movie picture soundtrack from The Nutty Professor, starring Eddie Murphy, and their self-titled debut album has sold over 500,000 in the United States alone.
In introducing Az Yet to Hong Kong audiences, the record company has decided to give them localised appeal.
'We have already prepared a drama version of Last Night that features the dialogue of pop icon Ekin Cheung and Miss Hong Kong, Tam Siu-wen,' said Ruby Choy of BMG Records.
It was not easy to break a new act into Hong Kong, especially an R&B group, she said.
'We have adopted a progressive localisation strategy that can make a great impact on the audience,' Ms Choy said.
'So although they do not remember the name of the artist, they remember the song.' The record company is taking a multi-developmental approach for launching Az Yet.
