I refer to the letter headlined, 'Community aid lacking', from Peter Lam (South China Morning Post, February 4).
Mr Lam did not represent a fair and accurate picture of the Hongkong Bank Group (HSBC).
The Hong Kong Cancer Fund is a recipient of the bank's generous donations. Since 1990, the Hongkong Bank Foundation has sponsored us to operate many of our vital services, such as our popular Cancer Information Service, and its pledge has been far from modest.
It is only with the Hongkong Bank's generosity this year that we can continue with our free bilingual cancer booklets. Over 150,000 copies have been distributed free, helping tens of thousands in Hong Kong and many other Chinese communities overseas.
We feel the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank has supported the local community enormously. We believe that the recipients of our booklets would agree.
